I had a thought today about this phrase, “What is in your mouth”? As I meditated on that, I thought, right, what is in my mouth? So often we have great thoughts, and don’t speak them out. Or it works opposite, we think wrong thoughts and speak them out. Do you know that what is spoken is what activates your faith. Roman’s 10:17 tells us “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God”. So in other words, what you are hearing is what you have faith for. If all you hear is negative words, spoken by yourself to yourself, you have activated faith for that thing you heard. On the contrary if you speak positively about yourself to yourself, again it activates your faith in that arena. Don’t beleive me? Then just listen to your self-talk. Now examine how you feel about yourself. It all comes from what you are constantly saying and hearing. (By the way, what you hear on the inside is usually what you are saying)! This is why it is so important that we are speaking life-giving words over ourselves and to ourselves. If you build yourself a reservoir inside of yourself with God’s word you will have something to fall back on when you need it.
I will share an example. One time I was in an accident on Mt. Hood. I flew up in the air about 10 feet and landed on my back with my 12 year old son on top of me. The paramedics were trying to convince me to be life flighted off the Mountain due to the injuries I had sustained. They were telling me I was bleeding internally, and that I could be paralyzed. It was true I couldn’t move my feet and that my blood pressure had plumented. All of this indicated their diagnosis was true. However my heart was filled with Gods Word. The first thing out of my mouth was Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. And I wasn’t cussing! I was calling on the Name of the Lord. As I lay strapped down to a gurney, in the ambulance, scripture after scripture began to bubble up on the inside of me. It was there, the life source of God’s Word lying dormant on the inside of me…I activated my faith by as I began to quietly speak out the healing words that were coming to me. I was told I would be a paraplegic. I was told I would have back pain for the rest of my life. I was told that I could die. But God’s Word prevailed over every negative report. I got what I said, because I had faith from what I was hearing myself saying. I am alive and well today (this was in 1991) because of that deposit of Gods Word in my heart. I said I will be up and walking in two weeks, they said it’ll be two months. They said you’ll have back pain for the rest of your life. I said I will be fine in two months. I got what I said, not what they said! So, what are you saying? What are you building on the inside of you, so that when you need it, it will be there? What is in your mouth?
